The Taraba Bridge linking Jalingo and Wukari has collapsed at Maraban Gassol area of the state.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, announced this in a statement signed by the Director of Information in the ministry, Mr Theodore Ogaziechi, in Abuja on Thursday.

He said that the bridge collapsed after a heavy downpour on Wednesday evening but that contractor had been mobilized to the site to commence palliative.

The minister, therefore, urged motorists to use an alternate route through Jalingo – Garba Cheda – Bali – Takum – Katsina Ala adding that palliative work would commence on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi had deployed Road Marshals to the scene of the incident to ease the diversion of traffic on the route.

Fashola said that the members of the public would be informed about the progress on the palliative work, calling on motorists and travellers to bear with the situation.

“It is a natural accident. The contractor has been mobilized to provide palliative,” the statement read.
