Tears, Agony As Benue Buries Priests, 17 Others
People living around Ayati pilgrim site near Ikpayongo in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue state were thrown into agony on Tuesday as the state government laid into the grave two priests and 17 other persons slain by herdsmen a few weeks ago.
The 19 dead bodies were being buried on Tuesday amidst tears by sympathisers and church members who graced the burial.
This is the second time the state Governor, Samuel Ortom would declare a work-free day for victims of herdsmen attack to be buried.
Last year, 73 residents of the state were killed by herdsmen.
Recalled that the herdsmen invaded Mbalon community and attacked St. Ignatius Catholic Church at Ayar Mbalom in Gwer East Local Government Area of the state, killed two priests – Rev Fathers Joseph Gor and Felix Tyolaha and other 17 worshipers during early morning mass.
