The Hurdles Before And After Agbaje’s Endurance
Nigeria News – The Hurdles Before And After Agbaje’s Endurance
It is not impossible for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to win Lagos governorship seat in 2019 but the party’s candidate, Mr Jimi Agbaje may eventually cross to the All Progressives Congress (APC), provided that APC wins at the central.
Unarguably, APC will dominate the Lagos State House of Assembly and with its quality presence at the 56 Local Government and Local Development Areas, any party that will dislodge APC must be ready for a big war in Lagos.
That is what the former Governor of the state, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has created and that is what makes him thick. He knows almost all the leaders of grassroots politicians by names, including their telephone numbers.
Don’t ask me how he does it, Tinubu’s political network and collation is strong. He has his followers closely monitored.
If he senses that you are a good opposition, he will invite you and ask you to join his group or orders you to name your price and leave him alone to rule the state as long as he can.
Several times, he has invited Agbaje, according to close sources but the perennial PDP candidate has refused. Agbaje is not ready to be pocketed. He was with Tinubu in the Alliance for Democracy. He opted out of the party when he realized the domineering tendency of Tinubu.
Agbaje’s new slogan is freedom for Lagosians and democracy for all. He may be lucky this third time but he cannot be lucky to remain as Lagos governor if PDP manages to win and APC wins the Federal seat.
I can bet it that Agbaje if he wins at all will defect to APC or get impeached by the APC lawmakers who will be the majority in the Lagos House. It is a normal game plan for the APC and the lawmakers, most of whom are Tinubu’s stooges.
Agbaje’s vying for Lagos seat is like a lion that is straying into the gangs of hyenas. A lion that is not with its pride risks ferocious attack from hyenas.
It must run for its life or get bitterly hurt. This is the solace for APC. If its candidate Babajide Sanwo-Olu would not win, then Agbaje must be ready to decamp to APC.
However, if PDP and by extension, Atiku Abubakar wins the 2019 presidential election and Agbaje emerges Lagos governor, he may survive the plots of the waiting hyenas.
What the lawmakers at the state house will need is the lion’s leftover, which they can easily share, even if the Lion of Bourdilon would roar so loud to warn them.
So, Jimi needs serious prayers not only for his successful outing but for Atiku and PDP at the central. However, the People’s Democratic Party does not look like a party that can stop Tinubu in Lagos for now.
Recalled in 2003, when the PDP swept the whole of Southwest states except Lagos, Atiku who was the Vice President was instrumental to it.
He claimed, shortly, after he emerged the PDP flagbearer that he had Lagos antidote at hands and that PDP would dissolve APC in 2019. Until then, let’s leave our fingers crossed.
