The Wedding Party Breaks Box Office Records As It Makes N200 Million in 16 Days
Ebony Life films, the makers of Nigeria’s latest blockbuster, ‘the wedding party’ recently made a press release where they officially announced that the movie has broken the record for the highest grossing Nollywood movie ever in a cinema after its release to critical acclaim on December 16 2016.
The movie directed by ace music video director, Kemi Adetiba stares major players in the movie industry and also musician Banky W in the lead role.
The press release stated that ‘the wedding party’ took just two weeks to eclipse the impressive previous record of N176 million, which was held by AY’s ‘A Trip to Jamaica as it made a staggering N200 million before the New Year weekend was over.
Apart from that, the movie is reported to have also set the records for the biggest opening weekend in Nollywood history with N36 million and then also the best-ever opening week with N66 million and it rounded up the yuletide season with a staggering N146 million.
CEO of EbonyLife films, Mo Abudu stated that “We really believe that the Nigerian consumer will support any ‘made in Nigeria’ product, if the quality is comparable to international standards.”
This has led to talk of a sequel as well as making the movie available on Netflix and also on airlines and other movie rental services.
