Thunderstorm Kills Three in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State
Thunderstorm as a result of heavy downpour has killed three persons in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. The three persons were in their early 20s and operated a commercial motorcycle.
The deceased had run under a shed for cover during the rain when the thunderstruck them to death.
This happened at about 3 pm on Thursday, an eyewitness told our correspondent. He said that the whole of Ijebu Ode was thrown into confusion because death by a thunderstorm is not ordinary.
“They were riding a motorcycle but decided to take shelter in a kiosk close to the former Gateway Hotel Annex along the Ijebu Ode for the rain to subside,”an eyewitness said.
When our correspondent visited the scene, the lifeless bodies of the three were still on the ground as sympathisers gathered to identify it.
It was learned that although some policemen visited the scene, they could not remove the corpses and did not touch a bag said to belong to one of the deceased.
However, a sympathizer simply identified as Ridwan, claimed to know one of the deceased and gave his name as Ayo from Imomo-Ijebu in Ijebu North-East Local Government. According to him, “Ayo was a motorcyclist and fan repairer.” He was seen making frantic effort to inform his family.
