Troops of Operation Safe Haven Arrest Syndicate of Child Trafficking
Troops of Operation Safe Haven have apprehended a syndicate who specialized in child trafficking at a checkpoint along Angwan Gora road in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna state while trying to convey a five-year-old girl they kidnapped from Jos in Plateau state to Anambra state.
The child trafficking deal involving the gang operating between Plateau and Anambra states was under the guise of giving children out for adoption.
Media Officer of Operation Safe Haven Major Umaru Adamu said they were intercepted by troops at a checkpoint along Angwan Gora road in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna state when the driver could not substantiate his relationship with the girl.
So he took to his heels and was apprehended by troops.
But after investigation, it was revealed that the driver was part of a syndicate who were also arrested and paraded at the headquarters of Operation Safe Haven in Jos.
All the suspects narrated the parts they played in the deal. Georgina is the mother of the victim, Esther is her friend who facilitated the kidnap, Kenneth provided the link to Esther and Christopher Emeka is the driver.
But for the watchful eyes of troops stationed at the checkpoint, the victim would by now be in custody of the receiver who agreed to pay the sum of 350,000 for the child trafficking deal.
The suspects have been handed over to the relevant agency for prosecution.
