Troops Uncover Militias’ Base In Benue
Troops of the 707 Special Forces Brigade, Makurdi, Benue State of the Nigerian Army have uncovered militia’s base in the state.
The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig Gen Sani Usman said that a native doctor, identified as Tordue Gber also known as, Tiv Swem was also arrested while his accomplice, Atoo Francis was killed.
According to him, the base was discovered at Tor-Dunga Town in the Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
The army alleged that the native doctor supplied charms and ammunition to the militias and that they were the one that had been terrorizing Benue, Taraba and Nasarawa States.
“Troops raided the shrine and arrested Gber, who acted as a spiritual adviser to the criminal militias,” Usman said.
The army spokesman stated that the native doctor’s shrine was being used as hideouts for the militias based on preliminary investigations.
Among weapons recovered from the native doctor and his accomplice are two Baretta Pistols, locally fabricated pistol and 11 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
He said that warm clothing for concealing weapons, three motorcycles, two mobile telephones and three power generators were also recovered from the hideouts.
