U-17 AFCON Qualifier: Golden Eaglets Thrash Cote D’lvoire, Keep Hopes Alive
The Golden Eaglets revived their hopes of qualifying for the 2019 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Tanzania when they defeated Cote d’l voire 5-1 in their second Group B game at the WAFU B qualifying tournament in Niger on Thursday.
Manu Garba charges fell to a 3-2 against Burkina Faso in their first game on Monday.
The Eaglets raced to the 2-0 lead after 10 minutes. Burkina Faso will face Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday in a match that will determine the winner of the group.
Hosts Niger top Group A with two points from two games. Togo and Ghana will clash in the group’s other game on Saturday.
The top two teams in the two groups will qualify for the semi-finals. The overall champions will qualify for 2019 U-17 AFCON in Tanzania.
Meanwhile, over one hundred and twenty players will participate in first ever African football freestyle championship coming up September thirteen in Lagos.
Chairman of the organising outfit, Valentine Ozigbo revealed that after qualifying rounds, the best sixteen male and eight female freestyle athletes in Africa will battle it out at the grand finale on September fifteen.
Ozigbo further revealed that feet and tricks international has Samson Siasia, Kate Henshaw, Tonto Dikeh to John Fashanu and Waidi Akanni as their ambassadors.
