UNILAG Student ‘Oluwaseyi Anyiam’ Arraigned For Allegedly Defiling Female Colleague
A 400-level student of Actuarial Sciences, University of Lagos, Akoka, Oluwaseyi Anyiam has been arraigned before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on one count of sexual assault on a 16-year-old female colleague.
The prosecuting police told the court that the accused committed the crime on August 3, at his residence located around Alagomeji.
According to the police report, the 22-year-old Anyiam had invited the girl who happened to be his friend for a lunch outside the campus.
“After the lunch at Alagomeji, the boy told the girl that he forgot something at home and would like her to follow him to pick it,” police report said.
On getting home, Anyiam made a move to have sexual intercourse with the girl but she refused.
He eventually forced himself on the girl as he forcefully dipped his finger in her private part for oral sex.
The survivor later reported the case to the university authority who in turn told the Sabo Police Division.
The boy was arrested and detained but after a few days in police cell, he was released on the ground that the families of the accused and the survivor had resolved it amicably.
But the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team of the Lagos State Ministry of Justice got to know about the crime and decided to prosecute the accused.
The DSVRT Coordinator, Mrs. Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, said a team went to the university on August 9 to get the perpetrator, but was told that the case had been transferred to the Sabo Police Station.
The suspect ‘Oluwaseyi Anyiam’ was consequently arraigned in the state capital, Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on one count of sexual assault to which he pleaded not guilty.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osusanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
