We Do Not See IPOB As Terrorist Organisation – US
The United States Government said at the weekend that it did not see the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB as a terrorist organisation.
The spokesman for the American Embassy in Nigeria, Russell Brooks, stated this while reacting to the declaration of IPOB as a terrorist group by the Federal High Court Abuja.
He said that the American constitution does not categorise such group as IPOB as a terrorist group as he urged all ethnic nationalities within the country to always resolve their differences through dialogue.
Brooks stated further that the United States Government was committed to Nigeria’s unity and would support a peaceful resolution of any crisis in the country.
Following the pronouncement of IPOB as terrorist group by the Nigerian Army and subsequent approval by the Federal High court last week, the Federal Government had alleged that much of the finances of the IPOB came from France and United Kingdom.
Investigation also revealed that IPOB was used as name to register a company in the United States and that some money also came through the source.
However Brooks said that US government does not finance terrorism, saying it is strongly committed to Nigeria’s unity.
