We Have Chased Away Grand Corruption In Nigeria – Osinbajo
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said on Sunday that the Federal Government has tamed impunity and the grand corruption in the country.
He said this at a news conference with a group of journalists in Lagos, adding that the government does more projects now despite lesser revenue generation.
Osinbajo stated that the President Muhammadu Buhari led government has put in place a national strategy to ensure that public officers are not able to privatise public finances.
According to him, the government has automated its processes and created consequences for corruption.
“By so doing, we have removed discretion from individuals because if you don’t remove discretion from individuals the individuals can have discretion as to whether or not they will grant certain approvals through certain processes,” he said.
He explained that the processes had since discouraged corruption at every level of government.
The Vice President noted that the present administration spent about N1.3 trillion on the capital project in 2017, which according to him is the highest in the history of the country.
“So we are able to do far more with far less because we have controlled the impunity that went on, the grand corruption, and all of that,” he said.
