What Ambode Will Not Do For Sanwo-Olu
Nigeria News takes a look at the problem that may arise ahead of the All Progressives Congress, Lagos governorship campaign between the candidate, Jide Sanwo-Olu and the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.
One of the sins the Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode committed was stopping the Private Sector Participation in the management of waste.
Many of the operators of the waste trucks are members of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
The introduction of Visionscape by Ambode to manage Lagos waste was not a bad idea but the failure of the company to effectively remove mountains of refuse from the roads revamp the agitation of the PSP for a need to come back.
The PSP has a very good reason, which of course is not limited to clearing refuse but also to make some money while doing the job.
Since last week, some of the PSP operators had come back to the road. The State House of Assembly had forced the governor to comply with the PSP, which invariably is the APC agenda.
But the problem now is the mechanical condition of the PSP vehicles on the road now. Almost every day, it is observed that some of it break down, causing heavy traffic along major roads.
On Monday, the Third Mainland Bridge and the popular Ikorodu Road were thrown into heavy traffic because two articulated vehicles fell.
A PSP vehicle fell towards Costain area of the Ikorodu Road while another articulated vehicle fell at Ilubirin as the traffic spilt over the long stretch of Third Mainland Bridge to Toll Gate in Ketu Area of Lagos.
This is what Ambode Will have to battle with for the remaining part of his tenure in office. It is a compounded problem for a governor whose idea was not allowed to sail because of party’s interest.
And as the APC prepares to sell his governorship candidate, Mr Jide Sanwo-Olu to Lagosians in 2019 poll, the party will need funds.
The party will not only need Ambode to join in campaigning for Sanwo-Olu, but it will also expect the governor to earmark some funds for the political rally.
I guess there will be a serious problem here. Naturally, Ambode may not like to do this and if he will do a little, the governor will be so reluctant to do it.
He has passed through this road before. But as a hero, in which his predecessor, Babatunde Fashola had to reluctantly campaign for him.
Ambode never forgave Fashola perhaps until recently. But now that he’s been punished by the party, there are strong indications that Ambode may be ready to jeopardise the chance of Sanwo-Olu in the area of Funding.
The party has sensed this and it will not mind using the house to impeach Ambode. However on Monday, the Speaker of the house, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa denied the plan to impeach the governor.
He spoke during the plenary that prominent Lagosians had been calling him to know the truth behind the story but he denied that there was such plot.
