Why FG Can’t Arrest Arewa Youths – Dambazau
The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau has said that the Federal Government cannot arrest members of the coalition of Arewa youths because they did not mean to chase Igbo people away from the north.
He said that the leadership of the Arewa group were invited by the Department of State Service where they stated that the media misinterpreted the contents of their news conference on the quit notice issued to Igbo people.
According to Dambazau, the Arewa group also addressed the press in Abuja last week, where they withdrew the quit notice.
The Arewa youths had earlier issued October 1, 2017 ultimatum to the Igbo to leave the 19 northern states or face attack.
However, the Arewa youths explained at the news conference that they had used such language to stop the separatist agenda of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB who had been threatening to pull out of Nigeria.
They later claimed that the media quoted them out of context.
The Arewa youths also wrote to the Vice President Osinbajo who was acting then that they did not mean to chase Igbo people out of the north but that they were quoted out context by the media.
