Why We Must Investigate Saraki – Police
The Nigeria Police has said that the letter written by President of the Senate to exonerate himself from Offa Bank robbery was not explicit enough to free him from being investigated.
The Force spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, said this on Thursday, adding that the detectives had visited the Senate president in his office at the National Assembly Complex to interrogate him in spite of his letter.
Moshood said that Saraki would have to shed light on some of the issues raised in the letter as part of the police investigation of the Offa bank robbery where scores of people were killed in a broad daylight and millions of naira carted away.
The police also refuted the story by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federal Ministry of Justice that the police did not have facts to show that Saraki was involved in the Offa robbery.
Moshood said, “The DPP advice did not exonerate the Senate President, it only called for further investigations into the matter.
According to the police, investigation shows that the suspects have a direct link with Saraki and the Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatai Ahmed.
“Even though the two had denied the allegation of their involvement, it does not stop the police from carrying out their investigation as expected by the law,” Moshood noted.
