Will Oshiomhole Survive This Plot?

By  |

ElevateNews takes a look at the plot by some APC bigwigs to remove the National Chairman of the Party, Adams Oshiomhole.

The politics that swept his predecessor away may also do the same to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole.

His predecessor, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun was sacked by the party for stepping on the toes of the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Oyegun would not listen to Tinubu anymore as soon as he became the national chairman. Tinubu called for his resignation until the former governor of Edo State was shoved out of the position and replaced with another former governor of his State, Oshiomhole.

Currently, Oshiomhole is facing the same battle, many of those who sang his praises to get the seat are calling for his removal.

Oshiomhole is having a running battle with some APC governors who alleged that the chairman had turned himself to a dictator and would not respect their opinions again.

Speaking in an exclusive interview recently, the Chairman Nigeria Governors’ Forum who is also a prominent member of the progressive governors’ forum, Dr. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State said that many of the governors are not happy with the leadership style of Oshiomhole.

Fayemi accused Oshiomhole of being too rigid and dictatorial in his approach as the national chairman of the party. He said that Oshiomhole does not respect the views of the governors who gave him 100 per cent support to succeed Oyegun but rather he is running an exclusive government.

To Fayemi, the national chairman, Oshiomhole must run an inclusive government where all stakeholders must have their say. Oshiomhole is expected to spend five years, according to the APC constitution but there are forces that do not want him to last another year in office as the APC chairman.

Like all human beings, Oshiomhole is not perfect but it appears that those calling for his neck are doing so to keep their ambition alive.

It was gathered that Fayemi might have ambition in 2023 as he is aligning with some forces within the party to form a bloc towards 2023 presidential election. And if Oshiomhole remains as the chairman, their plans may not work out.

Oshiomhole is still listening to Tinubu for advice and it was gathered that those seeking his removal do not want Tinubu in 2023. It was learnt that the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai is eyeing presidency and would prefer Fayemi as a running mate.

For them to succeed, Oshiomhole who is Tinubu stooge must be removed. Fayemi said in the interview that APC might seize to exist after Buhari’s tenure and that the only way to keep the party alive is by creating an organic leadership, an institution of inclusive leadership for the party.

With Oshiomhole, it seems there is no hope to make APC an institution that can outlive Buhari whom Fayemi described as the rallying point of the party for now.
