Nigeria’s hope of playing its sixth world cup may be a bit tough as the country may be playing either of Egypt, Cote D’Ivoir or Algeria in the qualifying series.

In a draw done yesterday by the Confederation of African Football, CAF, Nigeria was drawn in pot three alongside Congo, Mali, South Africa and Morocco.

In pot one, were Egypt, Algeria, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana and Senegal, with any of them as potential opponent for Super Eagles of Nigeria.

In pot two Tunisia, Cape Verde, DR Congo, Guinea and Cameroon, with any of them as potential opponent for Super Eagles.

The teams will play between October and November 2017 in a mini league to pick 20 teams that will play the real qualifier to represent Africa in the world cup.

According to CAF, the 20 teams will be grouped into five groups of four with leader of each group representing the continent for the fiesta.

Nigeria qualified for its first world cup in 1994 where it reached the second round, a feat it repeated in 1998 in France. The country was booted out at the preliminary in Korea 2002. Nigeria missed 2006 world cup in Germany, but played in South Africa 2010. The country also reached second round in 2014 World Cup played in Brazil.
