World Cup: Can Formation Help Super Eagles?
Football analysts are of the views that a good formation can help Super Eagles excel at the Fifa World Cup, starting in Russia in a few days.
Nigeria lost two matches in a row in its pre-world cup friendlies against England and the Czech Republic despite the power play of the players.
Coach Gernot Rohr has tried different formations, changing the midfielders and attackers but with a little change to the defence line but has not been able to convince football fans the readiness of the team.
Analysts suggest that the coach could use the trio of Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo and John Mikel Obi in the midfield instead of Ogenyi Onazi, Joel Obi and Mikel Obi to create fluidity at the centre.
Rohr has not started the three together in a match. Analysts believe this formation can work because what the Super Eagles really need now is to get good suppliers of passes to the attackers.
In the last three matches that the Eagles had played, it was obvious that the main striker, Odion Ighalo was starved of the ball.
He had to play deep to bring the ball to the front and this could be overwhelming, especially when the team is facing a more tactically discipline opponent.
