World Cup Fallout: Why Nigeria Failed To Qualify For Second Round-Iwobi
Super Eagles striker and Arsenal forward, Alex Iwobi has blamed the early ouster of Nigeria from the world cup on the team coach, Gernot Rohr.
He said that the coach was experimenting with Nigeria instead of sticking with the team that qualified the country for the Mundial.
Iwobi who scored Nigeria’s winning goal against Zambia to qualify the team for World Cup said he sat on the bench most times at the tournament because the coach was trying new things.
However, the forward stated that he had no grouse with the coach because the German tactician had the last say and could not query his tactics.
Iwobi noted that the Nigeria team was young and proud of itself and could have qualified for the second round if not for the late goal scored by Marcos Roho of Argentina that knocked the Super Eagles out.
The Arsenal FC player stated that he was happy with the performance of the team, even though it did not go beyond the first round, adding that the players had taken all the positives from the tournament and would build on it for consequence outings.
“The squad is young and we picked important lessons that will hopefully help us going forward,” he said.
